Hello everyone! Donna Salazar here with a new video tutorial to share how to make your own watercolor paints using the Pigment Powders in the Donna Salazar with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® line. I created a card using those watercolors 🙂 I hope you enjoy the video and detailed card making steps to follow.
These are the palettes that I use regularly and you can tell by the photo which are my favorite colors (normally my palettes are much dirtier but I cleaned them up for the photo – lol!).
The recipe for making these is really simple! It is basically equal parts Pigment Powder, Gum Arabic & Water.
The first photo is of the palette with all six colors straight from my Pigment Powders. The second photo is one (of the many) experimental palettes where I have mixed the colors together in different ratios.
The next two photos I made with liquid gum arabic. The first photo is of the palette all 6 original colors plus some of my favorite color mixtures. These watercolors are much softer and a lot more pigment is releases immediately. On the next batch of watercolors that I make with more liquid gum arabic made the cakes harder. This palette was with mostly experimental colors plus the colors that I use the most.
The video explains how I make watercolors and I share watercoloring tips. It also does a video comparison of the watercolors made with powdered gum arabic vs. the ones made with the liquid gum arabic. Enjoy…
Here are some step by step photos of how I created the card using the watercolor image.
I cut an 8.5 x 11” ivory card stock in half and scored down the middle to create an A2 size (4.25 x 5.5”) card. I cut a piece of patterned paper slightly smaller, distressed the edges and adhered it to the card front with the E-Z Runner® Grand Dispenser.
I cut a 5.5″ piece of lace from Lace Ribbons and added Premium Double-Sided Tape 1” Permanent to the back. I tied a tiny bow with the same lace and added a Dodz Adhesive Dots 3D on its back. I used 3D Foam Squares – White, Regular and 3D Foam Squares – White, Small on the back of the watercolor image.
I folded flower stamens in half and applied Crafty Power Tape – 81′ over the ends. I wrapped Girlie Grunge Twine around my fingers three times and added Crafty Power Tape over the middle. I stamped with my Journal Words on cardstock and cut them into strips with notches on the ends. Then inked the edges with Honey Mixed Media Inx and added Crafty Power Tape to the back.
I adhered the lace to the left side of the card, sprinkled Twinkle Dust glitter over the lace and used a stiff paint brush to burnish the glitter into the adhesive.
To add the Girlie Grunge Twine and the flower stamens, I lifted one side of the liner then rolled the embellishment so the adhesive is thick in the one spot.
I used 6 butterflies die cut from book pages using my Cascading Butterflies die (you actually get 9 butterflies in one pass) and doubled them up to create 3 butterflies. I used the E-Z Runner® Micro Refillable Dispenser to run adhesive down the center of the butterflies to adhere them together then inked the edges with Mix’d Media Inx.
Below is the finished card where you can see how I adhered all the pieces together.
In the photo below you can see how the Twinkle Dust glitter shows through the Lace Ribbons and you can also see some of the dimension on the watercolor Flower Bouquet image.
This is the last close up photo where you can see the little word tags made with my Journal Words stamps and you also get a good view at the colors on the watercolor image.
