Hello and Happy New Year! My first post of the year is about my heritage and a New Year’s game that was played in Japan. Hanetsuki game is similar to badminton (hitting a birdie back and forth with a paddle). It is rarely played now and the paddle became more of a New Year’s decorative piece in the home. This is my take of the paddle created with cardstock!<\/p>\n

\"Decorative<\/a><\/p>\n

To create the base, I hand drew based on images on the internet onto thick white cardstock and cut with scissors. I repeated two more times, adhered all layers with Adhesive Sheets – 12×12″<\/a> and trim the excess off the edges. Note:<\/strong> If you still have some sticky edges, use an anti-static powder or talcum powder to alleviate the problem.<\/p>\n

Next I covered the paddle with three coats of Gesso (allow dry time between each coat), wrapped washi tape around the handle and painted it with Chalkboard Paint.<\/p>\n

I wanted to create a textured background so I grabbed my E-Z Dots\u00ae Repositionable<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0secure the stencil and applied Whipped Spackle.<\/p>\n

Now the decorating FUN begins! I applied adhesive on the back of my die cut (cut in half) using Adhesive Sheets – 4×6″<\/a> for full coverage, even with the narrow areas!<\/p>\n

Who says that these 3D Foam Products<\/a> had to be covered with glitter, flock and such?! Color them with Design Memory Craft\u00ae Gelatos\u00ae and Art GRIP\u00ae Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils! I used 3D Foam Garden Shapes<\/a>\u00a0and \u00a03D Foam Leaves <\/a>too.<\/p>\n

For the sequins, buttons, beads and such, I used various sizes of Dodz\u2122<\/a> – there are three sizes: small<\/a>, medium<\/a> and 3D<\/a>.<\/p>\n
