Hello crafty friends! Judy<\/a><\/strong> here with a card inspired by a quilt I saw on Pinterest. Instead of fabric, I’ve used strips cut from mixed media papers printed with a Gel Press and backed with Adhesive Sheets. That makes for easy assembly! The same technique can easily be adapted to patterned papers.<\/p>\n

Mixed Media Birthday Card Base<\/h2>\n

To make this card, let’s form a 3.75 x 5.5-inch card base from tan cardstock. <\/p>\n

Lay the large background stamp face up on the work surface and ink with Distress Oxide Weathered Wood partially across the top and bottom. Face the card base down on the stamp, aligning the edges with the grid pattern, and rub over the card to transfer the grid image. <\/p>\n

Making the Background Strips<\/h2>\n

Apply Adhesive Sheets 4×6 inch<\/a> to the back of three gel press printed papers. These prints are from my collection and were printed on printer paper. Scrapbook paper or patterned paper can easily be used instead.<\/p>\n

Cut strips from each print design in 0.25, .375 and 0.5 inch widths.<\/p>\n

Designer Tip: <\/strong>keep the card closed while working with strips by applying a small area with E-Z Dots\u00ae Repositionable Refillable Dispenser<\/a> on the inside of the card. It makes it so much easier to keep strips on the card when it’s flat! I also keep the card closed and flat when I photograph it. Just rub the adhesive off when finished. <\/p>\n

Line up strips on the card front to decide placement such as alternate the colors, sizes, and stagger the ends. <\/p>\n

Start at the cut edge of the card. Simply remove liner of Adhesive Sheets and adhere the strips in place. The grid pattern helps to align them straight or use a clear ruler too. Cover from the edge to the fold. Trim if necessary to fit. Cut a few 0.125-inch strips and place them over other strips.<\/p>\n

Birthday Sentiment<\/h2>\n

Stamp birthday greeting with black ink on tan cardstock and then heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Die-cut into a strip and trim ends square.<\/p>\n

Designer’s Tip:<\/strong> Keep a collection of these strips on hand. Simply stamp three or more sets at a time with white, tan, and black cardstock. My usual combinations of embossing are clear on white or tan cardstock or with gold or white on black cardstock. <\/p>\n

Rub ink over the strip and then wipe with a paper towel to remove ink from embossed words. Cut mat of yellow cardstock to fit verse strip and adhere using the E-Z Runner\u00ae Micro Refillable Dispenser<\/a> with the right ends flush. <\/p>\n

Mat a strip of gel press print paper with a slightly larger yellow cardstock strip. Fasten it to the sentiment keeping edges flush on one end. Secure the matted sentiment together using E-Z Runner\u00ae Micro Refillable Dispenser<\/a> and then place it on the card base.<\/p>\n
