Valentine’s Day Gumball Machine Tutorial

Kimberly Crawford gumball machine 1

Hello everyone! Kimberly here today. If you know me at all, you will know how much I love gumball machines! From having them in my classroom to designing a set of stamps with a gumball machine image, I love old-fashioned gumball machines. So you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across this darling one that is made from paper! I love 3D paper crafting items and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® has adhesives to make assembly simple and permanent.

Kimberly Crawford gumball machine 2The first items I always grab when starting a project like this are Crafty Power Tape and Dodz Adhesive Dots. These two adhesives are going to be a huge help when I start putting together all the pieces I die cut with my digital die cutting machine.

The first piece that needed adhesive is this cap. A Dodz Small placed on the tab holds it perfectly.

More Dodz for this circle that will go over the cap. I placed the small version all around the circle. They fit wonderfully.

As I continued, I realized that I had several small pieces that needed layering. Putting adhesive on these small and detailed die cut items can be tricky. But E-Z Dots® Permanent Refillable to the rescue! The dots adhere where they touch, which is great for small spaces. If you somehow get an extra dot, simply wipe it away with your finger.

More small items and no worries.

To hold together the base of the gumball machine, I knew I would need serious adhesive. Crafty Power Tape is the answer. On this tab I placed three layers of Crafty Power Tape, spreading them out to completely cover the tab.

Tip: When working with paper for projects like this, bend and form the paper before you adhere the parts together, it makes everything work much better.

More Crafty Power Tape to attach this part to the front of the machine.

Such a clever use of Christmas ornaments! I grabbed a ton during after-Christmas sales just for these! The top of the ornament easily comes off to add more treats. Someone in my house ate the rest of the conversation hearts…not me. Looks like a great gift for teachers!

thanks for stopping by!
