Hey everybody, happy Wednesday! I hope you’re having a good week! What kind of cards do you create the most? For me, it’s almost a toss-up between birthday and thank you, but definitely a few more birthday. Leslie here with you today, sharing a tutorial for creating THE cutest birthday candle card. It’s an easy one and would be a good one to mass-produce to have extras in your stash. So let’s get started!
Card Base & Layers for Birthday Candle Card
WHITE CARDSTOCK:
Card base: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. Either cut from a heavier weight cardstock with a trimmer and score, or use a pre-folded card base. I have some of these in my stash and they are a huge time-saver.
Front layering panel: 4″ x 5-1/4″ cut from lighter weight cardstock.
Inside sentiment panel: 3-3/4″ x 5″ cut from lighter weight cardstock.
GREEN CARDSTOCK:
Layering panel for inside: 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″.
RED PATTERNED PAPER:
Embellishing strip for inside: 3-5/8″ x 1″.
Cut the Candle Pieces
Firstly, cut four pieces of patterned paper in different colors into 1″ x 3″ strips and adhere to Adhesive Sheets 4 x 6in. Trim the top of the four pieces at a diagonal with about a 1/2″ difference in height from left to right. Some of my strips were not quite 3″ long (I used scraps) but worked out fine anyway.
Secondly, trim off the very bottom of the adhesive sheet straight across. Then cut each strip in half lengthwise so you have eight 1/2″ wide pieces.
Thirdly, slide one piece from each color pair downward and fasten together with low-tack tape. Afterwards, trim the top of those four pieces at a diagonal with about 1/2″ difference in height from right to left. You’ll notice this direction is opposite from the first step.
Create the Candles
Arrange the pieces to your liking, making sure the tops are different heights and angles. I snapped a photo so I could remember how I had them arranged on my birthday candle card (insert grin).
Additionally, remove the adhesive sheet liner from the backs and adhere them to the white cardstock front layering panel. Cute candles, huh?! Draw a wick on the top of each candle with a pencil. Use a flame-shaped die to die cut eight flames, and color them accordingly. This can be a leaf die or punch; I had some rounded jewels infinity dies out on my desk. Mine were cut from white cardstock and I colored them yellow, with a bit of light orange down to darker orange. Quick coloring with no precision, as no two flames are alike and they should look somewhat whimsical.
Assemble the Focal Panel for Birthday Candle Card
Use the smaller of the two sizes of Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix to adhere a flame above each candle. Add a little bit of sparkle overlay to them if desired. Your birthday candle card is looking good!
Adhere the Layers
Using Crafty Foam Tape White 54ft., adhere the focal panel to the front of the birthday candle card base.
Next, adhere the red patterned paper to the inside sentiment panel. For a little interest, I adhered mine to the bottom of the panel. Now adhere this panel to the green cardstock layer. My favorite E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser was used for all the inside panel layers.
Add Sentiments & Embellishments
Stamp front and inside sentiments in black ink and cut with the coordinating dies. Apply adhesive to the back of the sentiments with the Dual Tip Glue Pen and adhere them to the appropriate panels.
Finally, add a few enamel shapes to the front and a cake die cut to the inside panel, once again using the Dual Tip Glue Pen.
Complete the Birthday Candle Card
All that’s left to do is adhere the inside panel using the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser. Your super cute birthday candle card is complete!
