Bright Flowers Birthday Card

Hello crafty friends! Today, I’m thinking bright, sunny and warmer weather with this Bright Flowers Birthday Card. I used flowers and leaves that I watercolor painted. Stamped or die cut flowers could easily be used instead. I like to make a bunch of these to have on hand for a quick card. You can find lots of directions online for ways to make these. I learned from a class I took from Tiffany Sharpe and then added my own style.

Start with a Sentiment

Rub an anti-static duster over a piece of black cardstock for the sentiment. Then stamp verse with Versafine Onyx Black ink, cover with white embossing powder, remove excess, and emboss with a heat tool. Trim the sentiment into a strip.

Designer Tip: I use Versafine ink on black cardstock because it stamps very fine details well. But any embossing ink pad can be used.

Gather the Bright Flowers

Stamp flower and leaf images. Make the flowers bright with watercolor, along with coloring the two leaves. Curl flower petals and leaves for dimension.

The Card Base + Panel

Cut a piece of white cardstock to 8.5 x 6.25 inches and fold to half to form a top fold 4.25 x 6.25-inch card. For the card panel, cut a piece of 4 x 6-inch white cardstock. Then emboss it with a Quilted pattern embossing folder. Trim the panel as needed to fit the card front.

Place the panel face down on scoring board. Score .125 inch from each edge to create a finished border.

Apply adhesive with E-Z Runner® Ultra Strong Refillable Dispenser along back edges of the embossed panel. Fasten to the card front.

Pop Up the Bright Flowers + Leaves

Using a combination of Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix and 3D Foam Squares White Mix, you create a varying height to the elements for fun dimension and interest.

Here’s how I used them. Place a small Thin 3D Foam Squares White on the center back of each flower. Next, I added a small 3D Foam Squares White to the back of the flower petals. For the leaves, place large 3D Foam Squares White on the back of the leaves. Apply a small amount of E-Z Runner® Ultra Strong Refillable Dispenser to the leaf stems and tips.

Flowers + Leaves Arrangement

Arrange flowers, leaves, and the sentiment strip to the card panel as shown or desired. The following steps are how I adhered all the elements down…maybe it might help you.

Hold a flower in place with your finger, lift the flower slightly to remove liner from the small Thin 3D Foam Squares White on the center of the flower, and press it to secure it in place. Repeat for all flowers.

Next, lift flower petals, remove liners from the small 3D Foam Squares White and press to adhere in place. Repeat to secure all flower petals. More 3D Foam Squares can be added as desired.

Hold a leaf in place, lift slightly to remove liner and press in place. Repeat for other leaf.

Add the Sentiment

Cut a large 3D Foam Squares White Mix in half and apply on the back of the sentiment strip. Peel the liners off and fasten the sentiment to the card.
