Hey everybody, happy second week of January already! It’s been so cold this Winter that I’m counting down the days until Summer arrives! If you’re ready for some warmer weather, I can take you there with this fun project! Leslie here, sharing a Summer Count Down Z-Fold Mini Album with lots of details. And, of course, I used some of the best adhesives in the land to put it together! There are multiple panels with pockets and pull-outs to document all your fun Summer activities. I’m excited to show you how to make this. so let’s get started!
Create the Summer Count Down Mini Base
Score a 12×12″ sheet of kraft cardstock at 4″ and 8″. Rotate 90 degrees (in either direction) and score it again at 4″ and 8″. Fold on the score lines and burnish with a bone folder.
The nine sections are labeled in the photo below:
1: Cut the bottom score line just to the next section to create a flap. Trim out just a sliver above the cut line so the album sections will close smoothly. Trim off approximately one-third of the left side of the flap.
2: Leave as it is.
3: Remove completely.
4, 5 and 6: Leave as they are.
7: Cut diagonally from bottom left to upper right. Trim out just a sliver above the cut line so the album sections will close smoothly.
8: Leave as it is.
9: Cut the left score line upward just to the section above it to create a flap. Trim out just a sliver to the right of the cut line so the album sections will close smoothly. Tear off approximately one-half of bottom of the flap.
Add Cardstock Panels & Form Pockets
Adhere panels cut from textured Doodlebug Design cardstock to the five whole sections. Use the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser for this step. Next, apply adhesive to the flaps in sections 1, 7 and 9 as shown in the photo below. The E-Z Runner® Micro Refillable Dispenser is fabulous for this step, as the margins for adhesive are narrow at 1/8″.
Now, let’s form the pockets. Firstly, fold the flap in section 1 over toward the right and adhere it to section 2. Secondly, fold the uppermost diagonal flap in section 7 upward and adhere it to section 4. Thirdly, fold the lowermost diagonal flap in section 7 over toward the right and adhere it to section 8. Lastly, fold the torn flap in section 9 upward and adhere it to section 6. You’ll see it’s coming together nicely!
Adhere Patterned Paper Panels
Accordingly, adhere some Doodlebug Design patterned papers to the outside of each of the four pockets. I used a 1″ punch to create a thumb notch for one, and tore paper layers to match the torn pocket. Likewise, I added a very narrow paper strip to one of the diagonal pockets.
Embellish Pockets & Make Tags
Let’s add elements to the pockets with Doodlebug Design enamels, die cut pieces, stickers, and sentiments. Then make some tags and pull-outs (using the same products) to tuck into the pockets for photos and journaling. A combination of the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser and Dual Tip Glue Pen works great. Also popped up some elements with Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix.

Complete the Summer Count Down Z-Fold Mini
Flip the base over and adhere white cardstock panels to the back of sections 2 and 8. Add Doodlebug Design die cut pieces as well. Use the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser for this.
To fold up the mini album, flip it back over to the front side. Simply flip up the bottom flap, flip down the top flap, and form it into a Z-fold.
