Festive Summer Birthday Card

Hello, it’s Kristin here today and creating handmade birthday cards is one of my favorite ways to celebrate someone special. My Festive Summer Birthday Card is full of bright colors, dimension, and shine! Using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L products with the adorable Doodlebug Summer Fun collection is the perfect way to celebrate summer birthdays!

Festive Summer Birthday Card Foundation

On white cardstock card base, I adhered two patterned paper with the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser. The colorful prints create a playful summer feel and provide the perfect backdrop for the focal elements.

Happy Birthday Sentiment

Select a coordinating pink patterned paper mat for the sentiment outline and die-cut it. Next, die cut a white sheet of 3D Foam Creative Sheets Mix to die-cut “Happy Birthday” sentiment and peel off the top liner to cover with pink glitter. Press into the foam to secure and tap off excess. Remove the bottom liner and match up with its outline shape. Set aside. Bringing adhesives from beneath the layers to the front as embellishments is what we call Wear Your Adhesive on the Outside technique. Let’s do some more!

To give the sentiment more interest, I used the triangle pennant from the 3D Foam Pennants and foiled it with the platinum foil from the Metallic Transfer Foil Sheets Nature Colors. Simply place the foil color side facing you over the exposed adhesive and rub to transfer the color. Peel to reveal the shine! I trimmed a sliver off each side to fit the look I was going for. Don’t throw the slivers away…I used them as confetti squares around the card. Add a little puffy flower sticker on tip of the triangle pennant to become a birthday hat.

I also placed a fishtail pennant to the card using the same foiling steps and added a puffy flower sticker. Adding that little bit of extra dimension helps the focal point stand out and creates visual interest without adding a lot of bulk. For the longer banners, I used branding strips.

Add Extra Sparkle

Pop up my punched scalloped circle with the 3D Foam Circles Black Mix. Because every birthday card deserves a little “extra extra” sparkle, little rhinestones around each scallop with a tiny dab of my Dual Tip Glue Pen for extra stick to the card. The rhinestones, along with the shimmer from the foil creates a card that is both playful and eye-catching.
