Hi, Ali (FunAdventuresWithAli) here today! There is something about bright sunshine, beautiful memories, and colorful scrapbook supplies that makes summer layouts so much fun to create! Today I’m excited to share this cheerful Sweet Summer Time Layout featuring a gorgeous sun cut file, fun and colorful summer papers, and plenty of dimension using my favorite Crafty Foam Tape White 108ft.

Sweet Summer Time Layout Back Story
This layout documents one of my favorite photos of my husband, Jeff, and me celebrating our anniversary in Saugatuck, Michigan. We had an amazing time exploring the town, enjoying delicious food, and trying fun activities together. This particular photo was taken during a relaxing paddleboat ride, and every time I see it, I’m reminded of what a wonderful day we shared.

Creating Dimension with a Layered Cut File
For this project, instead of simply backing the words with patterned paper, I selected three coordinating patterned papers from the same collection. This gives it more color combination and interest. After tracing the outline of the sun onto the back of the yellow cardstock, I carefully cut it out to create a solid base for my design.

Next came my favorite part—adding dimension! I applied Crafty Foam Tape White 108ft. behind each of the cut file words before layering them onto the yellow sun base. This created beautiful depth while still keeping everything nicely aligned. To make the entire sun stand out even more, I added another layer of Crafty Foam Tape White 108ft. behind the yellow sun itself before attaching it to my background cardstock.
The result is a layered sun that practically jumps off the page! The extra dimension adds wonderful shadows and really brings the design to life.
Finishing Touches
No scrapbook layout feels complete without a few finishing details! I sprinkled colorful enamel dots between each of the sun rays to add a playful touch and draw your eye around the page. Those three adorable little bird embellishments were popped up with 3D Foam Squares Micro White and placed around my photo, title, and sun to help create visual balance while adding even more dimension.

To finish the scene, I wanted the clouds to appear as though they were floating behind the bright sunshine. Lightly dust with powder behind them to remove the stickiness and added 3D Foam Squares White Mix. Then tucked them behind the sun. I absolutely love the layered sky effect it created!
Why I Love Layering with Foam Adhesive
Using foam adhesive in multiple layers is one of my favorite techniques. It transforms a flat layout into one full of depth and texture. Raising different elements at varying heights creates a design that makes every detail stand out. If you’ve never tried layering a cut file this way, I highly recommend giving it a try! It’s an easy technique that adds dimension and gives your scrapbook layouts an eye-catching look.

This layout truly makes me smile every time I see it! It captures such a special memory while celebrating all the bright, happy feelings of summer. I hope this project inspires you to pull out your favorite cut files, patterned papers, and foam adhesive to create a layout full of depth and dimension.
Have a wonderful summer, stay cool, and happy crafting!
