Hey everybody! How did it get to be Monday already?! AND the last Monday in July, no less! Have to ask this… do you make your own tags? Many people use store-bought tags on birthday (and other) gifts but I know a lot of crafters who make their own. Including me! Leslie here with you today sharing a Celebrate Birthday Jumbo Tag that can indeed be used on a gift or as a stand-alone tag/card! Can you tell I’ve been in birthday mode?! Dipped back into my cardstock, dies, birthday papers and die cut pieces in my stash. Plus I used quite a few Scrapbook Adhesives products. So let’s make a tag!
Build Tag Base
Firstly, use a large tag die to cut the white base from heavyweight cardstock. The die I used is about 3-3/4″ x 6-1/2″, cut from 165# white cardstock which is pretty robust.
Secondly, use the same die to cut layers from colored cardstock, patterned paper and and a short piece of gold foil. Tear both ends of the patterned paper and gold foil, and cut the gold foil piece in half since it’s only needed on the ends.
Thirdly, adhere the layers to the tag base using the E-Z Runner® Grand Permanent Strips Refillable Dispenser. Position the gold foil pieces so they peek out from the ends of the patterned paper.
Embellish Giant Birthday Tag
Using the Dual Tip Glue Pen, adhere a journaling card with notched corners to the background at an angle. Adhere embossed horizontal strips, the rosette, and small circles. These pieces will be outlined in more detail in the next section. Add several more die cut pieces using using 3D Foam Squares White Mix and Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix. Finally, loop several colors of gingham ribbon through the tag hole and tie with white twine.
Wear Your Adhesive on the Outside!
As if you can’t tell, I LOVE the ‘Wear Your Adhesive on the Outside’ technique! You’ve seen above that I employed it several times on this giant birthday tag! Let’s recap: Started with 3D Foam Strips heat embossed with white embossing powder placed horizontally on the patterned paper. Did you know you can heat emboss these? Well, yes you can!
This technique was used a second time on the rosette with glitter. Before assembling the rosette, apply a strip of Crafty Power Tape Polybag 81ft. down the entire strip of cardstock out toward the scalloped edge. Remove the liner and sprinkle on some purple glitter. Press with your finger to secure and tap off the excess. Assemble the rosette as normal and adhere it to the tag with a Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix.
For a third time using this technique, let’s play with 3D Foam Circles White Mix and Metallic Transfer Foil Sheets Pastel Colors! As before, remove the liner on a large circle and press the yellow foil onto it with the color side toward you. This embellishes the center of the rosette beautifully! I used the same process with several small circles and yellow, green, blue and purple foil.
