Mixed Media Dragonflies CHA Ensamble – Part II

“Hello everyone! Asia King here. Thank you for stopping by today to see the second installment of my Mixed Media Dragonflies CHA ensemble. In my first post I shared a Mixed Media Dragonflies Canvas With Adhesive Sheets and today you will see the remaining items – an altered wooden plaque and an altered mobile phone cover.

The Dragonfly Ensemble

The Wood Dragonfly Plaque

The plaque was first decorated with Adhesive Sheets  6×12″ and printed napkins using a dry decoupage technique and then painted with acrylic paints. I also randomly added some texture paste through a stencil.

Next I built layers and layers of embellishments, buttons, flowers and trinkets adhered together with Adhesive Dots Small and Adhesive Dots 3D. To fill my layers and to embellish further I also used Thin 3D Foam Squares Mix White, 3D Foam Squares White Mix, 3D Foam Pennants, 3D Foam Wings and 3D Foam Butterflies. My adhesives served a double purpose, ornamental and as a sticky base for additional elements. Below you can see the layers in their ‘raw’ state.

As you can see I’ve used a variety of found objects, including broken jewellery pieces, an old burnt light bulb and a spring.

Using your 3D Foam Designer Shapes is perfect for this type of a mixed media project. The shapes add a lot of interest and they allow you to fix additional elements in place at the same time. At this stage you don’t even have to worry about matching colours because the next step is to cover everything generously with white gesso. Once the gesso has dried you can colour your piece as desired with ink sprays and paints.

And here is a close up of the detail once the colouring stage is finished, quite a difference isn’t it? 🙂

I wanted to use the wall plaque as a shelf for the altered mobile phone cover so I added some swirls to the shelf to hold the phone cover in place.

Altered Phone Cover

I had a used mobile phone cover in my stash and I thought it would make a great notepad, perhaps for keeping phone messages or telephone numbers?

The cover was decorated as before and here you can see the ‘raw’ stage :).

And here is the close up detail ‘after’ the gesso, inks and paint were applied.

Here is a little peek inside the cover. I added a small notepad which I fixed in place with Crafty Foam Tape White. Can you see that little Keepsake Envelope? Perfect for keeping some paperclips as bookmarks!
