Spring Mixed Media Projects with 3D Foam Shapes, Adhesive Sheets and More

Looking for a spring-inspired mixed media project? Hi there, it’s Stephanie here today to show what I created using several types of adhesives by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®.

Spring Mixed Media Projects with 3D Foam Shapes, Adhesive Sheets and More by Stephanie Schutze for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

Mixing Some Media + Adhesives

As you can see I’m already in the mood for spring. After a long time creating in white, I had so much fun using colors. 🙂

An ensemble was created with spring and Easter themes in mind: an Easter card, a spring canvas, and a notepad. For my background, I used paints and stamps with shimmering accents – thanks to a combination of Adhesive Sheets and E-Z Dots® Permanent – Refillable, and embossing powder and glitter.

Easter Card

For this card, I used the 3D Foam Easter Shapes and embossing powder and glitter to give a gleaming highlight to each of the little bunny and the basket shapes.

Spring Canvas and Notepad

This is a 20 x 20 cm canvas panel in which I used the 3D Foam Butterflies. On top of them is a mixture of embossing powder, micro pearls, and glitter. I love how the colors came out on them. On the birdcage, I added adhesive from the Adhesive Sheets and added glitter on top.

Stephanie_MixedMedia_canvas_4

And I created a matching notepad cover in the same process as the canvas.

It’s just a fun way to use adhesives in the background of projects and customize 3D Foam Shapes as decorative elements. I love them! And now I hope spring will come soon. 😉

Faux Embossed Leather Technique Tutorial – With Love Card

Hello blog readers! It’s Angela today, sharing a technique to create a fabulous faux leather look to use in any of your crafty projects….here’s a card I created from with the look of leather with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®:

Faux Embossed Leather Technique Tutorial - With Love Card by Angela Ploegman

This is a TECHNIQUE ONLY tutorial….it does not cover the steps to make the card….just the steps to create the fabulous embossed leather look.

Here’s what you need to get started:

Faux Embossed Leather Technique Tutorial - With Love Card by Angela Ploegman

Gather your Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Adhesive Sheets – 12×12″, your favorite thin steel background die, some tissue paper (kraft colored), some ink (medium brown, dark brown and a purple) and a base material that WON’T be cut by the thin steel die (I used grunge paper, but think a heavy chipboard would also work).

1. Cut a 6 x 6″ piece of the grunge paper. Ink all over with the medium brown ink, using a blending tool if necessary to fully cover the base. Apply random patches of purple ink and dark brown ink and blend until you are happy! Let dry or heat set (whatever your ink requires to dry and become permanent).

2. Crumple the tissue paper into a tight ball. Smooth and repeat 2 to 3 additional times to create even texture in the tissue paper.

angela ploegman faux embossed leather technique 3

3. Peel back the yellow protective covering on the Adhesive Sheet – 12 x 12″. Apply the tissue paper to the adhesive. Recover with the yellow protective layer, flip over and burnish the tissue paper to transfer the adhesive.

4. Peel back the tissue paper, ensuring the adhesive has transferred (if there are any areas with poor transfer, simply return the tissue paper to the adhesive sheet and burnish some more!). Place the inked base colored side up on the white backing and replace the tissue paper, adhesive side down on the colored base.

5. Burnish from the tissue paper side and tear the excess tissue paper away from the edges of the base. Repeat the inking procedure in step #1 (including the dry/heat set part) on the tissue paper.

angela ploegman faux embossed leather technique 8

6. Place the faux leather onto your base plate and place your thin steel background die face down on the faux leather.

angela ploegman faux embossed leather technique 9

7. Complete the die cutting sandwich as required by your machine and run through the machine (if you skip the embossing step, run the base through your machine replacing the die with a piece of chipboard to help seal the tissue paper securely to the base).

8. Ink the raised edge with some additional dark brown ink and let dry or heat set, as required.

Here’s a close up of the final project using the embossed faux leather:

And YOU’RE DONE! Easy and elegant technique, I think! I used a version of the same technique (minus the embossing) on all of my CHA projects this year – a card, a cuff and a gift box….

Denim Friendship Book Cover Tutorial

Using an Art Journal, I created a Friendship Book Cover.

Denim Friendship Denim Book Cover Tutorial by Margie HiguchiI used a wide lace ribbon one as a left border and to decorate the metal rings.

MargieHiguchi FriendshipBk 2To give “lift” to the pre-made flowers, I used Adhesive Dots 3D on each.

MargieHiguchi FriendshipBk 3

Then I cut/embossed a die with ivory cardstock. To adhere, I used Adhesives Sheets 4 x 6″.

MargieHiguchi FriendshipBk 4

I stamped a beautiful sentiment onto the ivory cardstock first. Then I placed a die over it to cut/emboss. To give it dimension, I placed 3D Foam Squares Black, Regular and centered it on the larger die cut.

Add sequins with Adhesive Dots Small to add more sparkle, tie bits of lace trim to rings and it’s good to go! Another look at the finished cover 🙂

Love is in the Air!

Michele here with a lovey dovey card for you! I guess with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’ve got love on the brain! It could also serve as a pretty anniversary or wedding card too!  I had all of these lace ribbons and knew I wanted to incorporate them here. And since straws seem to be such a big thing right now, I decided they would work perfectly for my card!
love you

I can’t seem to get enough of these 3D Foam Hearts either.  Just peel the backing and sprinkle with glitter. I covered the large heart with a bright pink glitter for a bit of punch to the card.  Layers of lace, string, sequins, and a sentiment were added for a finishing touch.

love you close

Want to creep into my brain and see my creative process for this card?  Grab yourself some 3D Foam Hearts.…..01208 3D Foam Hearts

….and dump your choice of sparkly glitter on top.

Then take out a package of Adhesive Sheets and adhere it to a piece of cream cardstock.

Lay the straws on top of the adhesive/card stock and snip the ends of the straws with scissors.

Once completed I added some of the pretty lace to the edge with DODZ™ Medium.

Layer  wide lace vertically and place the large pink heart on top with DODZ™ Medium.

I added the smaller gold heart and then added my string and epoxy dot to the center using Dodz™ Small.

Since you know I like lumpy bumpy cards, I had to adhere the piece above to my card using 3D Foam Squares.

Here is a final look at my card.  🙂

Mixed Media Dragonflies With Adhesive Sheets – Part I

Hello everyone! Asia King here and today I am sharing a project I created for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®’s booth at this year’s CHA, Mixed Media Dragonflies. My ensemble  has got quite a lot going on so I will be sharing it in two parts. Today is the first one and for the next installment please pop back on January 28th :).

Mixed Media Dragonflies with Adhesive Sheets by Asia King for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

Making the Dragonflies Canvas

This project is a new take on the dry decoupage technique I shared in my mixed media altered vanity box back in May last year. I used my favourite dragonflies printed napkins – they have such a happy design and colour palette, don’t you think?

Mixed media dragonflies_Asia King 2

After adhering the napkin to the canvas with Adhesive Sheets – 12×12″, I dry brushed some white gesso over the design to tone the colours down a bit. Then I created lots of different textures. I’m using Adhesive Dots SmallAdhesive Dots3DThin 3D Foam Squares3D Foam Squares 3D Foam Pennants and about a million of buttons, random found objects and different metal, resin and fabric embellishments.

Mixed media dragonflies_Asia King 4

Once everything was secured in place with my trusty Adhesive Dots Small and Adhesive Dots 3D I covered all elements with a generous dollop of white gesso and heat set it with my heat gun. Then I just played around with ink sprays and paints to add colour and shimmer. I also added some heat embossing with coordinating embossing powders for more texture.

Mixed media dragonflies_Asia King 3

To complete the canvas I added some stamped journaling quotes mounted over Crafty Foam Tape White and some more detailing with Liquid Pearls.

A Spring Scrapbook Layout Featuring Adhesive Sheets

Hello Everyone!  I know it’s a little early to post a spring layout, but a break from my snowy winter is a good thing.  Plus, I designed a few projects for display at the Craft & Hobby tradeshow in Anaheim this weekend, which is really exciting because in the upcoming weeks, you will be seeing lots of NEW products here on our blog!  YAY!

kellyklapstein-lovely-1

I placed a glittered 3D Foam Heart in the camera die cut and framed the title with a glittered 3D Foam Frame.
kellyklapstein-lovely-2

To adhere the layered papers under my photo, I used lots and lots of Crafty Foam Tape.

kellyklapstein-lovely-6

Those cute green glitter triangles are ‘leftover’ bits from my 3D Foam Pennants sheet. How did I adhere that clear plastic “lovely” word?  With Dodz™! Can you see them?  Nope! I also put a Dodz™-Small behind the wood arrow.

kellyklapstein-lovely-3

Isn’t that glittery “Spring” polaroid frame cute? I designed it with my ScanNCut machine, then used a 12 x 12 Adhesive Sheet on plain patterned paper before I cut it out. After it was cut, I removed the backing and sprinkled glitter all over. Ta Daaaaa!

Here is a video that shows you how I made this frame.  You can use this technique with Adhesive Sheets and any electronic cutting machine or manual die cutting machine.

Adhesive Sheets come in different sizes (4 x 6, 6 x 12, and 12 x 12) and can be really handy for lots of techniques!

Happy Crafting!

Easy Gift Bag and Tag Tutorial

Hello Latisha here with you today, to share a fun and easy way to dress up a plain gift bag, the kind we all have lying around.

Easy Gift Bag and Tag Tutorial by Latisha Yoast for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L
Gift Bag Tutorial

1.  Using your favorite color of Creative Photo Corners, create a border at the bottom of the bag by aligning them across the bottom edge, with the flat edge along the bottom of the bag.  Trim off excess off the sides.

2.  Die cut cream cardstock with a round, decorative die.

3.  Using the 4×6 Adhesive Sheets, place the sheet over plain cardstock.

4.  Die cut a butterfly using the cardstock that has the Adhesive Sheet on it.

5.  Remove the butterfly die cut, and peel the top liner off to reveal adhesive.

6.  Sprinkle glitter over the adhesive on the butterfly, tap off excess.

7.  Adhere the die cut butterfly to the round die cut from step 2, using 3D Foam Squares.

8.  From 3D Foam Butterflies, peel the top liner off of one shape, sprinkle with glitter and tap off excess. Remove from the sheet and apply on top of the glittered die cut butterfly.

9. Tie the round round die cut to the bag using twine. Ribbon would work as well!

Happy New Year Tag with 3D Foam Trees and Glitter

Hi There,

it’s Stephanie here today and I want to show you a Happy New Year Tag I made using some beautiful 3D Foam Trees.

Stephanie_newyear_1

The background is just a leftover from an other project. It’s a painted background on which I stamped with white paint. To make it very special I added some 3D Foam Trees.

Stephanie_newyear_2

I used some chunky glitter in a golden-brown color and added it to the 3D Foam Trees. It’s chunky glitter but it adhere very well.

Stephanie_newyear_3

Then I added a bit of white acrylic paint to give them a snowy look.

Stephanie_newyear_4

Some sprinkles with red paint, some white at the bottom and a handwritten Happy New Year sentiment with a white pen, that’s it.

Stephanie_newyear_5

Thanks for visiting today! I wish you a Happy New Year!

Stephanie 🙂

Paper Piecing with Adhesive Sheets – Warm Winter Wishes Card

Hello blog readers! It’s Angela today, sharing a card made easy with the RIGHT adhesives!

Paper Piecing with Adhesive Sheets - Warm Winter Wishes Card by Angela Ploegman

To make the card front, I first covered the front of the folded card base with an Adhesive Sheet – 12 x 12″. I then cut the base design (the white outline) and adhered to the card front. I then cut the same design from 3 different colors of blue card stock and filled in the design, which super quick as the adhesive was already in place!

Some vellum snowflakes were stuck in place with the E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips – Refillable and the pierced circle die with the sentiment stamped on it was stuck down with some 3D Foam Squares – White, Regular, holding the silver embroidery floss in place at the same time.

Here’s a close up of the sentiment block:

Altered Clipboard with 3D Foam Creative Sheets

Happy Monday! It’s Erica and today I’m sharing a clipboard I altered using 3D Foam Creative Sheets, as well as a step-by-step tutorial showing you how I altered my clipboard!

Altered Clipboard tutorial by Erica Houghton for Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

First, I started by spraying my clipboard with white Gesso. I then traced the clipboard onto a sheet of pattern paper, distressed and adhered it to the clipboard using the E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips.

Next, I fussy cut several elements from another sheet of pattern paper and adhered them using 3D Foam Creative Sheets and E-Z Runner® Permanent Strips.

Lastly, I finished adhering my embellishments with 3D Foam Creative Sheets. The 3D Foam Creative Sheets are one of my most favorite adhesives to use because they not only give my project dimension but the sheets are very sticky – adhering heavier embellishments securely.

Here are some closeups of the finished Altered Clipboard!
