Adhesive Masking Technique on a Background

Once I get on a technique kick, I have a hard time not incorporating it into my projects or looking for other ways to use it (see my Snow page.) Today’s technique is one you’ve seen me do recently and as I did it, I knew it was gonna stick! This technique incorporates the E-Z Runner® Grand using the Repositionable Dots Refill to create a unique background. Here’s my layout using the Adhesive Masking Technique:

If you take a close look at my background you can see that it has dots on it as I tried to recreate a beach scene with the yellow and blue but put a twist on it with the dots.

Adhesive Masking Basics

To create this look, I use my E-Z Runner® Grand with Repositionable Dots Refill applied all over the background. Then I used Distress Oxides inks and sponged it over the top of the dots. When dry, I removed the adhesive by rubbing it gently with my finger. Essentially I used the Repositionable Dots as a mask or a resist.

This close-up shows you the design in more detail. Although I could have gone with a more simple mixed media background, this technique allowed me to add a little more abstract pattern.

Another couple of handy adhesives on this layout were the E-Z Runner® Micro Refillable Dispenser and 3D Foam Squares. I used the Micro to add adhesive to the back of my happy words. This is a narrower adhesive at only 1/8″ in width, making this adhesive perfect for little die cut pieces!

Decorative Gift Bag For National Date Nut Bread Day

With cooler temperatures just around the corner, this is the perfect time to get nutty and crafty. This festive, decorative gift bag is the perfect compliment for your baked goods and sharing handmade kindness. Let’s get started!

Gather Your Decorative Supplies

For this project, you will need a few key ingredients to make this gift bag. I found a 12-pack set of kraft solid gift sacks for $2.99 in the party supply section of a craft store. With a coupon you can slash that price almost in half. These are fairly large and will perfectly accommodate a mini loaf. Or, two or three, when stacked! See the supply list below:

Kraft gift bag 3.5L x 5W x 10H inch
Wide ribbon and trim ribbon 26-inch each
E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser
E-Z Runner® Grand Ultra Strong Refill
3D Foam Circles Black Mix (or white)
Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/2in
Seasonal Sprigs
Gift Label (circle punch or die cuts)
scoring tool/board
twine or string *optional
scissors

Add Dimension With 3D Foam Circles

For my label, I chose to stack my die cut circles, adding the 3D Foam Circles Black Mix to the back of my top, stamped layer. This gives popped up dimension and adds that extra level of interest to your project. Set this aside and get ready for the next step.

Create A Professional Fold-Over Closure

If you’re going to go the extra mile to create a special gift bag for your baked goods, you want to make sure and have a polished look. Attention to details can really make your gift giving shine! I love to use a scored fold-over technique; such a simple detail that looks so professional. Simply score the top of your gift bag at 1 inch from the top, then at the 1/2 inch mark. Fold over and use your scoring tool to smooth out the fold as much as possible. Do not seal yet. This will be done later.

Tips For Adhering Ribbon

When working with ribbon or fabric, I prefer to use the E-Z Runner® Grand Ultra Strong Refill in my E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser. This ensures that the ribbon will stay put! Run strips of the adhesive down one side of your gift bag. Apply your ribbon, placing the end at the base of your bag.

It will be easier if you go ahead and have your stacked ribbon already adhered together. For ease in adhering ribbon together, I prefer to use strips from my Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/2in.

Once you’ve lined up your ribbon on the front of the bag, go ahead and tuck your treats inside the bag and fold over the top of your bag and adhere. Now, finish running your ribbon down the other side of the bag and seal at the base of your bag.

To place those finishing touches, you can now add your label and your decorative elements. I’ve placed a strip of Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/2in to the back of my sprig and add to my gift bag.

Metallic Glitter Card with Adhesive Sheets

Do you love metallic and glitter accents on your cards? Well, then today’s technique is one you will love to try out…Wear your Adhesive on the Outside! Hi everyone, Yvonne here! Are you ready to die-cut from Adhesive sheets and use Foil Sheets and lots of matching glitter? Ready to sparkle? Let’s get started!

Metallic Glitter Card Panel

First die-cut the leaves from Adhesive Sheets 4×6 inch. Carefully remove the die cut from the etched die.

Since the die cut is quite fragile, carefully and slowly remove the yellow release liner to adhere the die cut to the black cardstock panel. Make sure the white release liner facing up. To best secure the die cut to the card panel, I used a bone folder.

Repeat this step to adhere the other die-cut.

Wear Your Adhesive on the Outside

Now for the fun part! Adding foil from the 3D Foam Creative Embellishment Kit and glitter to the die cuts by Wear Your Adhesive On The Outside technique.

Carefully cut through just the white liner of the Adhesive Sheet with a craft knife. Remove small areas of the white liner. I choose to work on just the stems of the die cut. Cut only the liner and leave the adhesive exposed.

Next, cut a small piece of silver foil and gold foil from 3D Foam Creative Embellishment Kit. Randomly tap both of the gold and silver foils onto the exposed adhesive for a nice mix of metallic colors.

Glittered Leaves

Let’s remove the rest of the white liner to add the glitter! Sprinkle a combination of copper, silver and gold glitter onto the exposed adhesive. Rub the glitter into the adhesive with your fingers to secure and tap off to remove the excess.

If you find that you have sticky parts on your die cuts, I suggest two options. One is to sprinkle more glitter to cover. Or two is to take pieces of gold and silver foils to tap over the exposed adhesive. A great way you get an even more nice melange of colors 🙂

Build the Card

Affix the black card panel to a kraft cardstock panel and then to a creme card base using the E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser.

Stamp a sentiment onto black cardstock using an embossing ink pad and gold glittered embossing powder. Heat the sentiment. Die-cut a banner over the embossed sentiment and adhere the banner onto a piece of kraft cardstock using the E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser. Scissor cut it slightly larger than the black banner.

Thread ribbon through the holes of the banner and adhere to the card front with 3D Foam Squares White Regular Size.

Finally, glue the ends of the ribbon to the card front using Adhesive Dots Mini because the dots are transparent, no adhesive will show!

Halloween Shaker Card Tutorial

Hi Crafters! Valerie here today, and I decided to create a fun Halloween shaker card for today’s post!

The Colorful Halloween Background

I started by making a very colorful background with three Distress Oxide inks (Carved Pumpkin, Lucky Clover, and Seedless Preserves). When I got my desired colors blended, I added a thin layer of Hickory Smoke Distress Ink over the paper.

Next, I got all my die cutting done:

Here is where I used my E-Z Runner Grand Dispenser to attach the black base to the top of the card, and then the colorful background piece centered on top of the black base:

Make the Halloween Shaker

First, I used my E-Z Dots Permanent Dispenser to attach the very bottom piece of the shaker unit to the card front:

I used the same adhesive to adhere this purple piece on top of the black one:

And I was thrilled to see my beloved E-Z Dots Permanent Dispenser also worked on this foam piece:

This piece goes on top of the purple piece and the black piece and will hold the shaker pieces.

I used various Pretty Pink Posh sequins.

Once again I pulled out and used my trusty E-Z Dots Permanent Dispenser on top of the foam frame piece.

And here is where I put down the transparent piece.

Add the Finishing Touches

For the colored images that will lay flat on the card, I used my E-Z Dots Permanent Dispenser.

There are pieces that will need to be raised up because they will partially be attached to the raised shaker portion, so I added 3D Foam Circles Black Mix to them:

I decided to add some sequins to the front of the card and to do that I used Adhesive Dots Micro.

I like to put the Adhesive Dots Micro directly onto the card, and then attach the sequins on top of them:

Now the card is complete, and these are the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L products I used on this project:

DIY Paper Calla Lily Bouquet

Hi friends! Dana Tatar here today sharing how to create a paper calla lily bouquet. I love the look and scent of fresh flowers, but I usually only splurge for a bouquet on special occasions. The wall vase in my kitchen is something that I don’t like to leave empty. I created a paper bouquet of calla lilies, my favorite, to add a bold pop of color to my space.

My flower-making skills are at a beginner level, so this simple design was perfect for me. I used iridescent watercolors to paint a bold center for the flower petals. I wrapped the paper petals around wood dowels that I covered with a glittered yellow flock for the stamen and green floral tape for the stem.

How to Create a Paper Calla Lily Bouquet

Step 1. Use a petal template to trace petal shapes onto a piece of watercolor paper. Cut out the paper petals with scissors. I found a clip-art animal (stingray) that I thought looked like a lily petal as a template for this step. I printed out two sizes to add variety to my bouquet.

Step 2. Use watercolor paint to add color to the center of the flower petals. Let dry. My favorite calla lilies have white petals with a dark purple center. I used red, pink, blue, purple, and white paint. Any color palette and a full-coverage paint application would also work for this step.

Step 3. Create a flower stamen for each flower petal. Apply a Small Adhesive Dot to the end of a wood dowel. Next, apply Adhesives Lines around the top. Press the adhesive-covered end of the dowel into yellow flock. Gently tap the dowel to remove any excess flock.

Step 4. Bend and curl a dry flower petal into the desired shape. Attach the flower petal to the wood dowel, just under the flocked stamen, using Extreme Double-Sided Tape.

Step 5. Wrap the wood dowel with green floral tape. The floral tape is more tacky than sticky. Use a Small Adhesive Dot to secure the ends of the tape to the dowel to prevent unraveling.
