Thrilling Birthday Card

Hello crafters! Valerie here with a fun and thrilling birthday card for you today with a wonderful interactive feature – a sliding roller coaster! I’m excited to show you how to create one.

A Thrilling Top Panel

I die-cut and created the foreground of my card front by adhering the two pieces together with my E-Z Runner Grand Refillable Dispenser.

Next, I die-cut a background panel (a solid piece that is the exact same size and shape as the foreground piece) that right behind the foreground panel.

Die-cut another slope that is taller and a different shape in another tone of green cardstock. With my E-Z Runner Grand Refillable Dispenser, adhere the two layers together on a white card base.

After stamping, coloring and die-cutting the cute roller coaster image, secure it with the E-Z Runner Permanent Fine right under slide opening…it should be a perfect fit.

Behind the foreground panel, place 3D Foam Squares White Mix on the back. Once finished, take off the liners and attach to the card front. This gives the panel the perfect dimension for the interactive feature!

Creating the Sliding Roller Coaster Car

Grab a penny and dust it well with an embossing powder tool, or cornstarch (yes, cornstarch works!). By doing this step, it ensures the penny will easily slide on the slider track.

Carefully slip the penny into the track opening for the next step.

Scissor cut a narrow strip from 3D Foam Square – just enough that it will allow the penny to slide without interference. Remove the liner and attach to the penny.

Earlier I stamped, colored and die-cut a roller coaster car with an adorable passenger. Attach it to the penny. Slide it back and forth to ensure that it slides easily.

To finish off, I added other colored die-cut images on to the card front, Aren’t the little guys just too cute?! Then lastly I placed the sentiment at the bottom.

And here’s the final interactive birthday card…

Daisy Card with 3D Foam Circles

Hello, it’s Christine here today with a simple daisy card. Those flower centers are easily made with 3D Foam Circles White Mix and a little bit of heat embossing. Follow my easy tutorial to see how.

Heat Embossing 3D Foam Circles for Daisy Centers

Select some of the 3D Foam Circles White, I opted to use the small ones for the flower centers. There are two sizes in each pack. Trim a piece of the backing so you have them available to heat emboss and easily removable. Remove the top paper liner of each circle and sprinkle with embossing powder. I chose to use a bright glitter red. Tap off the excess and heat with a heat gun. Instant bright daisy flower centers! You could use any color you wish. I affixed them to die cut white flowers.

Then I die cut a piece of black card with a scalloped edge and matted onto a white A2 card front using MyStik® Permanent Strips. Because this adhesive is dispensed in little strips, it is ideal for applying as little or as much as you need. You can make long lines, curves or tiny, individual pieces right where you need them.

I used multiple daisy flowers to decorate the card front including cutting some in half to affix to the card edges for a continued design. Next I stamped a sentiment to the bottom right-hand corner. This is the finished card.

Sunday Greetings! Shellye McDaniel along with you today. I have a so-simple tutorial for making this fun Retro Girl Traveler’s Notebook.

Creating a Retro Notebook:

First, you will start with just a few basic supplies: 9 x 12″ craft foam, Adhesive Sheet 12 x 12″, Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/4″, elastic cording and your favorite scrapbook paper. You will also need these tools: 1/8″ hole punch, an awl or eyelet setter, ruler, corner-rounding punch, paper trimmer (I used a guillotine), scissors, and a lighter (optional).

First, you will need to cut your scrapbook paper, adhesive sheet, and foam to measure 8.75 x 11.25″. Carefully apply the adhesive sheet to the backside of the scrapbook paper.

Next, you will add strips of the Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/4″ to all edges of the foam sheet. Make sure that you get as close to the edge of the foam as possible.

After removing the backing from the double-sided tape, attach the foam sheet to the adhesive side of the scrapbook paper. Using your corner-rounder, punch all four edges of the foam/paper.

Next Up:

Now it’s time to create the holes and string through the elastic cording. Using your ruler, find the center of the foam. From the bottom: come up 0.5″ and mark two spots at 0.25″ on both sides of the center mark. Repeat the same process for the top:

Next, use your 1/8″ hole punch, punch the two holes at the top and bottom.

Again find the center of the foam by its length and height to create the middle hole. Use your awl or eyelet setter to create a hole.

Cut approximately 18″ of elastic cording from the roll. This next step is optional, but makes stringing so much easier! Use a lighter to quickly melt the ends of the elastic. Now you are ready to begin stringing the holes as shown below:

Before tying the ends together, test the tension to make sure that you have enough slack to accommodate the insert(s).

Finishing Up:

Finally, you are ready to add the closure band and protective edge.

For this, I have used a 3.5″ heart die to cut the shape from black felt. Two holes were punched on both sides of the heart. After cutting about a 12″ to 13″ piece of cording, I strung it through the holes of the heart and then through the center hole of the foam cover:

Before tying off the cording, adjust the length by making sure the center loop of the cording is the same length as the bottom of the notebook cover. Knot the cording and trim off the excess.

In finishing you may want to add more embellishments, paper clips, pen holder or even try machine stitching as I chose to do!

I’m so pleased with how this Retro Notebook turned out. By using the Adhesive Sheet, you are sure to get a smooth application of paper to foam without any bubbling of the paper. Give it a try and I think you’ll love the results too!

Mixed Media Collage on Wood Block

Mixed Media Collage Background

I started with a small wood block. To create a textural background, the block was covered with an Adhesive Sheet cut to size and a variety of ribbon strips and lace trims were wrapped around the block horizontally from top to bottom. Adhering fabric to wood has never been easier. Using Adhesive Sheets allowed me to continue on to my next step without interruption or wait time versus a liquid adhesive. It’s no secret to us makers how wonderful instant gratification is when crafting (insert happy crafty dance here)!

In this step, I also used the E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser with the E-Z Runner® Grand Ultra Strong Refill. I found it to work just as well, if not better, for some of the more stubborn strips of trim. The E-Z Runner® Grand Ultra Strong Refill is perfect for heavier papers and embellishments as well so it came in handy on a few other areas of my project.

Painted and Embellished Process

Paint three layers of white gesso over the block, allowing to dry between each layer.

Determine the arrangement of the Collage pieces on the block. Then paint each one individually before adhering them down. The face on the spoon was adhered using Dual Tip Glue Pen to the spoon and the spoon itself adhered with the same glue pen onto the block. Let dry for several hours as I used heavier amounts of liquid adhesive on the heavier embellishments. Under normal circumstances, the Dual Tip Glue Pen would normally bond in minutes.

The Adhesive Dots Micro and Adhesive Dots Large were used for smaller embellishments such as mini gems, bling brads, and acrylic accents. I covered the entire piece with another layer of gesso and let dry. I placed tiny microbeads on the board, securing them with the Dual Tip Glue Pen.

To make it more interesting, I used a variety of inks and sprays and dried with a heat gun. Lastly, rub-on words were added to the project.

Graduation Card | Step by Step

Graduation season is upon us, friends! Today on the blog, you can find the steps on how to create this card. If it’s possible to be empty and have a full heart at the same time, this is me, every year during this season.

I put a lot of “Mama Morgan” love and details into these cards. See the tips and tricks below as to how you can create this graduation card just like this.

What you need for this card:

The beauty of this card, I used scraps. I hang onto (more like hoard) scraps and leftovers just for this kind of layers! Sometimes your scraps coordinate perfectly. You’ll need adhesive of course but also 3D Foam Squares and Circles 🙂

Graduation Card Step Outs

For the card base, fold heavy cardstock and trim to measure 4.25 x 6.00″.
Grab those scraps! I used a piece of vellum with gold accents and adhere with E-Z Runner® Permanent Fine Adhesive Dispenser as shown in figure 2.
Look through your scraps and select the next layer. I used a corner rounder and distressed the edges before adhering this layer. Position it slightly off center and to the right of the base.
Next, I chose a smaller piece. Again distress the edges and adhered it with my E-Z Runner® Grand Refillable Dispenser. Place a piece of a glassine bag to this layer.
Add a frame and pop it up with 3D Foam Squares White Mix to the card front. Both sizes were needed for this part and I was able to stack two squares for extra dimension.
It is now ready to add the sentiment and accents. Look to step 7.
A thought bubble die cut was added to the inside of the frame, but let it overlap out of the frame. See the main picture as reference. Using 3D Foam Circles White Mix, I added the rest of the embellishments such as the gem and happy face, along with washi tape.
The sentiment was added last – a congrats grad sticker on a punched piece of cardstock adhered to the card with 3D Foam Squares! The sequins are the final touch, this card is ready!

ART Mini Canvas with 3D Foam Squares

Hello Friends! Today, I’m sharing an ART Mini Canvas that I created using a verse from Penny Black. That, along with a tag die, was my inspiration for this project! I’ve used 3D Foam Squares Black and Thin 3D Foam Squares Black Mix to add dimension.

Canvas Basics

The base of ART Mini Canvas is a 3 x 4 inch stretched artist canvas. Start with the edges painted with acrylic paint. When dried, rub ink on the edges and corners but without covering paint completely. I used colors to coordinate with my background paper.

Embellishing the Surface

The background paper is glued to the canvas with Dual Tip Glue Pen. The broad tip (shown open in photo) made a quick application on the canvas. I evened out the glue with my finger and applied the paper.

Next, I cut two tags, one of red patterned paper for a mat and one of tan patterned paper for the verse. Distress the edges by inking with Black Soot ink. I stamped the verse with Versafine Clair Fallen Leaves ink and clear embossed it.

I used Thin 3D Foam Squares Black Mix to fasten the verse tag to the red one.

Crafting the Details

On the back of the red tag, I used 3D Foam Squares Black Mix.

Next, I cut letters from patterned paper to spell “create”. I used 2 of the small squares from 3D Foam Squares Black Mix on the back of each letter and fastened the letters in place.

Secure the fibers to the top of the tag by sewing a button through it and the tag. I also used Adhesive Dots Small behind the button and fibers to secure it firmly to the tag. Fasten tag to the canvas and add black dots near the letters with Neon Amplify!

The back of ART Mini Canvas is covered with lightweight cardboard and added an easel piece which was fastened with Extreme Double-Sided Tape ½ʺ.

An Easy Shaker Pocket for a Card

Hi, everyone! Teri here with an easy shaker pocket created with one of the Keepsake Envelopes from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L®. These shakers look great on cards!

Making the Shaker Pocket

The shaker on this card is easy to recreate with the Keepsake Envelopes. It’s also a quick, time-saving way to make an interactive card!

Start by cutting a piece of cardstock to fit inside the pocket envelope. I went with white cardstock, but you could use any other color out there. Then you simply stuff the pocket with sequins, beads or, even, glitter!

There is adhesive on the pocket, but I wanted to add a little adhesive to it since the sequins I used were pretty small. I worried they might fall out when I mailed the card. So I simply added a small piece of Extreme Double-Sided Tape 1/4in to the pocket. It’s perfect because it’s clear when you remove the red backing paper.

Imagine making all kinds of shakers like these to use on cards, as well as scrapbook pages and tags!

Using a Shaker on a Card

I made my shaker pocket so it could go on a card. I’m not one to send cards out for Independence Day, but I wanted to create a general card to send to one of my friends in early July! You’ll notice I used a white, blue and red color scheme to make this card because of that.

I added a few stars too. They were easy to make! I simply took a couple 3D Foam Stars, placed them on my project and rubbed foil onto them!

The hello word looks like a pre-made embellishment. Guess what? It’s not! I made it myself by applying foil to a piece of foam from the 3D Foam Creative Embellishment Kit. Then I simply die-cut the word from it and put it on my card! Easy peasy!

Creative Stamping with 3D Foam Shapes

Welcome back, friends! Today I am sharing a fun little tutorial on how to use your 3D Foam Shapes in a creative new way. Let’s get stamping!

I love ALL of my foam shapes. There are just so many things you can do with them. Shakers, glitter, foil, dimension with acetate. Well here is one more thing to add to that list, stamping! Here are all of the details:

Start by finding some pretty thick chipboard. I cut two 3×3 squares and adhered them together using my E-Z Runner® Ultra Strong Refillable Dispenser.

Next you will take your 3D Foam Shapes, in this case I used 3D Foam Stars. You’ll want to use 2 layers of the foam to give a good amount of thickness for stamping. I created a simple cluster of stars for my stamped background.

For my layout, I chose to use Distress Oxide Inks for stamping. Using my cluster of stars stamp, I stamped the image over and over in different colours diagonally across the white cardstock (11×11).

Next I used some shimmer misters to add splatters of coordinating colour. Let dry.

Adhere the 11×11 white cardstock background to a full sheet of black cardstock. The photo is matted in white and black cardstock and adhered to the middle of the layout using 3D Foam Squares. I also added some more 3D Foam Stars around the matted photo keeping the protective covering on them. These just add a little dimension in a subtle way.

A simple title finishes this sweet layout.

Gold Foil Father’s Day Card

Father’s Day is rapidly approaching. Christine here and if you haven’t already made your card, I’ve got some inspiration for you today. As I considered how I wanted to make mine, I decided to add in the trendy gold foil combined with several other fun elements. Join me as I share the different ways I incorporated foil throughout this card!

The combination of stickers, patterned papers, and LOTS of adhesives all made this card come together. Let’s take a look at the different steps including how you can “Wear Your Adhesive on the Outside” to really up your project!

Creating your Father’s Day Card

Step One: After cutting down your card base, add Adhesive Dots in multiple sizes to the bottom left and top right corner of the card.

Step Two: Add Embossing Powder to the dots and then heat them up to set the powder. This is an important step to do before adding other parts to the card. Otherwise, the heat could mess up your other elements.

Adding Gold Foil

Step Three: Add a 3D Foam Frame to the center of the card. As you can see the frames come in a nested set making a variety of sizes available. They stretch a long way consequently making them a great choice for diving into multiple card designs.

Step Four: Top the frame with gold foil from the 3D Foam Creative Embellishment Kit. Although this looks complicated, it is as simple as laying the foil, with the colored side up, on the exposed adhesive of the 3D Foam Frame. Then simply rub foil with your finger and peel away the sheet.

Step Five: Add your sentiment atop the frame. As you can see the gold in my sentiment was a huge inspiration for the rest of the card.

Step Six: Cut out stars from patterned paper and secure those with Adhesive Sheets and 3D Foam Squares.

Step Seven: Add additional Adhesive Dots as you see holes that need to be filled. Use gold foil atop those to add some additional gold foil throughout.
